On display last weekend were signs of life-affirming pleasures in the company of women who haven’t spent much time together due to the pandemic. We gathered at the home of one of our members, celebrating her recent victory to the North Aurora Trustee Board. A few hours over food and wine confirmed how much I missed my friends!
Among the guests were those who recently lost spouses. Reassured glances and gestures of “how are you doing,” saying all about our solitary journeys. On the way home, I thought about our strength in weakness female gender and the support that comes from others. And about how losing my husband dramatically changed my own life. In the company of women has proven to be a positive life-affirming catalyst.
New and enduring friendships have shaped these summer days to hues of sunlight versus cloudy with a chance of rain. These amazing women, members of our KCDW organization, come with skills, careers, knowledge and passion for issues they believe in. They come with affection and comfort to lift those of us who need a word of encouragement.
Our talented group consists of some women considering a run for political office, women who are in the planning stages, and women who are working on their campaigns for the 2022 election. Their success and whether they reach their goals depends upon whether we are ready to support them. These women include women like Illinois Congresswoman Lauren Underwood; Rep. Barbara Hernandez, 83rd District; Senator Karina Villa, 25th District and Senator Cristina Castro, 22nd District. All women KCDW lent support to in the 2020 election.
There are opportunities within KCDW to shape the future for current and future generations. We welcome the women from the Fox Valley to get to know us. KCDW meets the 4th Wednesday of every month. Our next meeting is at Carmina’s in Elgin on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 6:00pm. Bring your passion and ideas, and become the catalyst for tomorrow.
